Importing contacts and placements

Learn how to import contacts and placements from a spreadsheet in Lev.

Updated October 2026

The import wizard lets you add contacts, companies, and placements from a spreadsheet. Open Import from the account menu, then move through Upload data, Map columns, and Review and edit. Mapping shows a live preview of each row, and a placement import includes the deal plus label mapping. When you finish, the records are ready to enter your CRM or the deal you selected.

Upload data

  • Open the account menu — Open the account menu, then click Import.
  • Choose a type — Click Import contacts or Import placements.
  • Add the source — Under Source, use Upload file or switch to Paste CSV and paste into CSV data.
  • Choose the deal — For a placement import, select the Deal. Placements are added to this deal.
  • Set the contact type — Under Contact type, choose one type for every contact, or Mixed to map a contact type column. Each contact's company is classified to match.
  • Name the import — Under Details, enter an Import name if you want one. The name is optional.
  • Analyze the file — Click Analyze and map columns.

Map columns

Match spreadsheet columns to Lev fields and check the live preview before extraction starts.

  • Confirm the contact type — At the top, keep the Contact type from upload or change it. With Mixed, select the column that contains each contact type.
  • Review the matches — Confirm each Lev field points at the right Spreadsheet column.
  • Review each group — Check Company and Contact. A placement import also includes Placement.
  • Map labels — Under Not mapped, click Choose or create a label next to a column. Pick an existing label group, or click Create new label and enter a Label group name.
  • Choose where the label applies — Under Apply to, select Company, Contact, or both, then click Apply label or Create label. The label then shows under Custom labels.
  • Check the preview — Review the mapped values in the preview next to the column list. The company type follows the contact type and can't be mapped.
  • Answer file questions — When Questions about your file is shown, answer each one before you continue.
  • Start extraction — Click Start extraction.

A workbook with more than one worksheet can pause on Choose a worksheet. Select a sheet and click Analyze selected worksheet. Worksheets is where you include more than one sheet.

Review and edit

Lev extracts the records, then opens this step so you can correct them before they are added. Records already in Lev are skipped so they are not duplicated.

  • Let extraction finish — You can leave this page. Return from History when the review is ready.
  • Save an edit — Change a record, then click Save.
  • Start the import — Click the import button that shows how many records are ready.
  • Confirm — In the Import all to Lev dialog, click Import all with the same count.

A failed import does not open the review. The page title is The import didn't finish, and Back to imports returns you to the start.

Using the CRM — add one contact from the Contacts list.
