The CRM lets you track the companies and people you work with, then use those records on deals. Open *CRM* in the sidebar to reach the Contacts and Companies lists. You can add a record one at a time, filter the lists, and update types, notes, and emails from the table or the record. Each contact belongs to a company, so the two lists stay tied together.

## Companies and contacts {#companies-and-contacts}

**Companies** are the organizations in your CRM. **Contacts** are the people at those companies. Types classify both records, including custom types you create, so you can group who you reach out to.

Open a record to edit *About* in the sidebar. On a company, *Compose* on the *Emails* tab includes that company's contacts in To. On a deal, change a company team member's role from the menu labeled *Change role to...*.

On a contact, each address under *Email* and *Other emails* has *Copy email* and *Send email* buttons. If the contact shows *Primary email* instead, click an address under *Other emails* to open a menu that also has *Make primary* and *Remove email*. To remove a phone number, click the trash icon beside *Mobile* or *Work*, then confirm.

## Add a contact {#add-a-contact}

Add one person from the Contacts list. To add many records from a spreadsheet, follow [Importing contacts and placements](/learn/crm/import-workflow).

- **Open the dialog** — On Contacts, click *Add contacts*.
- **Enter the required fields** — Fill in *Company*, *First name*, *Last name*, *Email*, and *Types*.
- **Save the contact** — Click *Save contact*.

## Add a company {#add-a-company}

Add one organization from the Companies list.

- **Open the dialog** — On Companies, click *Add company*.
- **Enter the company** — Fill in *Company name* and *Company type*.
- **Choose lender categories** — If you chose **Lender**, select one or more categories in *Category*.
- **Save the company** — Click *Save company*.

## Last contact {#last-contact}

The *Last contact* filter limits a list by when you last reached the record. It is on both Contacts and Companies. Use it to find recent conversations or records with no contact yet.

- **Last 30 days**
- **30–90 days**
- **90+ days**
- **Never contacted**

When you filter companies by labels from more than one group, the company has to match every group. See [Applying Labels](/learn/crm/using-labels).

## Update the list {#update-the-list}

Select rows to change types or add contacts to a deal, and edit the latest note, emails, and phone numbers in the list. Enrich a contact from a table cell, or dismiss a suggested value, in [Enrichment](/learn/originate/enrichment).

- **Open contact types** — Select the rows and click *Contact types*.
- **Open company types** — On Companies, click *Company types*.
- **Choose a type** — Select a type under *Standard* or *Custom*.
- **Create a custom type** — Type a name in *Search or create a type…*, then click *Create* with that name.
- **Change lender categories** — When every selected company is a lender, click *Lender categories*, then select a category to add or remove it.
- **Edit one company's categories** — Click *Edit* in the company's row menu, update *Category*, and save.
- **Add contacts to a deal** — Select contacts and click *Add to deal*.
- **Open the latest note** — Click the *Latest note* cell.
- **Save the note** — Write the note, then click *Save note*.
- **See every email** — Click the email in a row to list each address with its verification status and buttons to copy it, email it, or make it primary.
- **See every phone number** — Click the phone number in a row to list each number with its type and buttons to copy or call it.
- **Remove an email or phone number** — Hover any entry except the primary email, click *Remove email* or *Remove phone number*, then confirm.

Adding a type from Contacts also adds that type to each contact's company.
